Come Into the Story
You are part of it. Each generation writes a new chapter.
Our Stories of Becoming is a living family-history website created to preserve, expand, and share the stories that shape us across generations. Unlike a printed book, this site can grow as new memories, photographs, documents, corrections, and discoveries are added.
This site invites family members to become part of the work of remembering. Every photograph, document, correction, place, and memory adds another layer to the story. What one generation preserves, another generation can rediscover, expand, and pass forward.
It is also a place for connection. Family history is often scattered across boxes, albums, census records, cemetery stones, newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, and half-remembered stories. This website gathers those fragments into one shared space so that the lives behind the names can become more visible. Dates and documents matter, but so do the ordinary details: where people lived, what they endured, what they built, whom they loved, and how their choices shaped the generations that followed.
Our Stories of Becoming is not meant to be finished once and for all. It is meant to remain open, responsive, and collaborative. As family members contribute memories, identify people in photographs, correct errors, add documents, and share stories, the archive will become richer and more accurate. In that sense, this site is not only about the past. It is also about the ongoing work of belonging, remembering, and carrying forward the lives that made our own possible.

Why This Site Exists
This archive is not only a record of names and dates. It is a living collection of memory, kinship, place, and meaning. It gathers the fragments through which a family comes to know itself across generations: photographs, documents, stories, migrations, homes, losses, celebrations, and the ordinary details that made each life real.
Families are shaped not only by what is remembered, but also by what is preserved. A photograph placed in a drawer, a name written on the back of an image, a census record, an obituary, a cemetery marker, or a story told at the kitchen table can become a bridge between generations. This site exists to gather those bridges in one shared place so that the people who came before us are not reduced to dates on a chart, but encountered as lives unfolding in particular times, places, and relationships.
Our Stories of Becoming also recognizes that family history is never finished. New discoveries will correct what we thought we knew. New memories will add depth to familiar names. New photographs will help us see faces we have only heard about. As this archive grows, it becomes more than a collection of records. It becomes a shared act of remembering, belonging, and carrying forward the lives that made our own possible.
